Unisource Printing in Macomb and Orion Michigan is working on being a Greener Printing Company
Did you know that according to the American Forest & Paper Association, 57.4 percent of the paper consumed in the U.S. was recovered for recycling in 2008? In fact, if measured by weight, more paper is recovered for recycling from solid waste streams than all glass, plastic and alumimum combined. Every ton of paper recovered for recycling saves 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space.
The printing industry takes very seriously the effect we have on the environment. That is why over the years improvements have been made to make recycling paper cost – effective. Recycled paper is now the same price as “virgin” paper in most cases and the quality between the virgin and recycled paper is nearly impossible to detect.
Each time paper is recycled, the fiber length decreases, which impacts its strength. Paper can be regenerated approximately seven times and still be within standard strength. To help extend the life of paper, most paper mills introduce “virgin” fiber into the process. The recycled content is usually 10 to 30 percent of the paper. Thanks to the responsible forestry practices of U.S. companies, the U.S. forests have increased by nearly 40 percent over the past half-century.
Unisource Printing Services and Promotions works to be a more green company by purchasing recycled stocks for all its printing projects. If you would like more information on this subject please contact us.
